I was having Thanksgiving dinner (a week later) with my aunts and cousins that came down from Chicago. We wee playing Farkel (a fun dice game) and we were talking about various things. I brought up the topic of the stupidity of calling the Christmas tree a "holiday tree" because people don't want to mention the name Christmas to be PC.
Well that somehow led to a conversation about Jesus and how He is offensive and why. She asked why and I said because He claims to be the only Way and the only Truth. No one gets to heaven but through Christ. I told her how we need Jesus and we can't get to heaven unless we believe in Christ alone to get us there. We can never earn it. She thinks she can. It is Christ and our good works.
I then asked why Jesus had to die that horrible death if we could just earn our way to heaven. It doesn't really make sense! It is not both--but only through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for our forgiveness of sin!
She just kept disagreeing with me, so I allowed the subject to be changed. It got a little heated on her end.

A week later I brought up the gospel again because she meantioned Oprah. I said how sad it is that she abandoned her faith and rejected Jesus on public television. She said that it is ok to believe in God, but not Jesus.
