At the youth yard sale, a woman came in and asked about Celebrate Recovery and she asked about different ministries. And they were getting her a pamplet and she asked "at this church do people believe that Jesus is God?" Prior to this my wife was studying the letter of John and she told me that she saw a passage that refers to the deity of Christ. My wife said "yes" and my wife showed her a passage from 1 John.
She talked to her for a little while and then my wife saw Ed Groel (an elder) and told him to get me so that I could show her more passages that prove the deity of Christ.
So when I got there, she asked how can we know that Jesus is God? I asked her have you read the Gospels and the New Testament. She said she is "almost Jewish" because she likes the Old Testament. The OT also proves the deity of Christ and Him being Savior (predicting His death and sacrifice).
So we started with John1 (Word became flesh). Then I showed her how the Pharisees wanted to stone Jesus for claiming to be God and said they wouldn't want to stone Him if He didn't claim to be God and blaspheme.
Then I shared my testimony for a need of a Savior. She was now starting to be really interested and noticed her heart soften. I said to her that I won't and can't argue you into the Kingdom! She agreed! Because salvation is a miracle (the Holy Spirit opens a person's heart). I said that you can have a relatiosnhip with Jesus also when you put your faith and trsut in Jesus alone to forgive you from your sins.
I took her through Romans 1 and showed her how your heart can get harder everytime you reject the Gospel and she agreed. Also she had doubts about hell, heaven, Jesus as the only way. About world religions not being the way to God.
I asked her "What if you are wrong about the deity of Christ, and I am right?" Do you want to take that chance?
We talked about can God heal? Life change of a Christian? I could see as I listen and she talked---her heart was getting more open and she was doubting some of the stuff she believed (about Jehovah's witnesses).
She is coming to church on Sunday....
